Situated on the spectacular Duddon estuary, Sandscale Haws offers a superb base for this one-day writing workshop with author Karen Lloyd. Sandscale is a dynamic dune system where natterjack toads and rare plants live adjacent to the coast and to wading birds such as oyster catchers, curlews, sandpipers, dunlin and redshank. The workshop is timed to give the best possibility of experiencing one of nature’s greatest spectacles – birds coming in on a rising tide, and includes an introductory walk led by Sandscape’s expert National Trust wardens.

Karen is an experienced teacher (Arvon Foundation, Moniack Mhor) and author of Earthworks: Land and Nature in Uncertain Times and The Gathering Tide: A Journey Around the Edgelands of Morecambe Bay amongst other titles. The day will feature introductory readings, an interpretive walk by Sandscale’s expert wardens, writing prompts and plenty of time to explore this incredible area. For writers of all abilities including those with no previous experience and the more experienced. Bring plenty of warm, waterproof clothing, outdoor footwear, a packed lunch and flask, notebook, pens, binoculars and hand lens if you have them, and a sense of adventure.
